Makeup is having a moment right now. My YouTube and Instagram feeds are chock full of #getreadywithme posts, and tons of videos demonstrating contouring, eye shadow techniques, baking (and not the kind that requires a stove) and brow defining. Beauty Emporiums like Sephora and Ulta are shouted out constantly as mecca’s for high end cosmetics. (I’m a Sephora girl myself! 😉) But, as I already stated here, I can’t do a successful winged eye to save my life, and my attempt at falsies was an epic fail! So while I do love my Lancôme, Nars, and YSL (post on that soon!!!), I’m the type of girl who only relies on eye shadow, liner, mascara, and gloss for everyday glam, so drugstore brands are really great for helping me achieve my day to day looks! Here are a few of my faves!
Maybelline has been a staple of mine for years. Growing up, I always saw my mom using the classic Great Lash Mascara in the pink and green tube! I couldn’t wait to get older and try it myself. So when I was looking for a good eyeshadow palette, I knew to start with Maybelline! The 24k Nudes palette is such a great collection of neutral colors that work for everyday, and with every outfit choice. The pigment is not as rich as high end brands, but it still shows up on my dark skin, which is a plus. It comes with an easy to use applicator, which is a big plus! Great price too…buy it here!
I was drawn to this L’Oréal Eyeliner mainly because it is short, chubby, and soooo easy to use! It took me a while to master eyeliner, because I have deep-set almond eyes, and too much liner can make my eyes look heavy. Loreal’s eyeliner gives me that sexy, smoldering effect that doesn’t require smudging or extra work.
You tubers like Carli Bybel and Instagramer’s like Ms_Bentivegas have really influenced me with regard to lip looks, and so I broke up with gloss, and took the plunge toward matte. I always feared matte lipsticks because I tend to suffer from very dry lips that require a more moisturizing or glossy lip product. I love YSL’s oil based lipsticks for that very purpose…but Milani’s Matte Lip Cremes go on sooo smooth, and feel very moisturizing, even after the Creme has dried! The applicator wand is great, and allows you to apply smooth layers of buildable color. Great price as well and worth it! Buy it here.
Confession: I have always shied away from using highlighters, as they can be tricky with dark skin. But because I don’t use foundation during the work week, I needed something to give my skin a pretty radiance. A helpful CVS sales associate guided me to this product, and I’m so glad she did!!! Hermosa Rose is such a great color on my brown skin: It highlights, and gives a lovely shimmer to my cheekbones without looking ashy. Another bonus is that even with daily use, the rosette pattern stays visible! You can get it here!
My other products pictured include:
–L’Oréal False Fiber Lashes Mascara in Black, which I didn’t take a close up of, because I use it so much that all the writing faded off! This Mascara is insane! It elongates my short Lashes, and gives them a rich color, with no clumps!!!
–Cover Girl Queen Collection Vivid Impact Eyeliner in Midnight. I use this to get a clean, tight line on my waterline. Goes on smooth and dark, and comes with a built in smudger!
–L’Oréal Color Smokes Eye Shadow in shade #936-Blackened Smokes. L’Oréal really made this product easy for Newbies to be able to achieve a good smoky eye. The packaging comes with a step by step illustration on the back, and each color in the palette is also numbered so you can apply in the correct order. Highly pigmented and doesn’t crease!
