High Fashion Spotlight: Danville Fashion Week

As a blogger, I love attending fashion shows. Being invited to shows is exciting, but also helps me to stay abreast of trends, and designers on the rise. From the big (NYFW) to the small (local church shows), one thing remains the same: creativity abounds in every town, no matter the size! The featured city in this post: Danville, VA is no exception!

Although I’m a resident of NC, I was born and raised in Danville, so when I found out that Danville now has a mayor approved Danville Fashion Week, I knew I had to be in attendance! I grabbed my mother/Official Blog Photographer™, and off we went! The show was held on November 11, 2017, and featured designers from Danville, and surrounding areas. I was seated front-row/runway-side, so I had a wonderful view of every collection featured. The theme of the Danville Fashion Week show was: Art Off The Canvas, and each designer really embraced this theme and showed colorful, whimsical looks that took my breath away!

The show was very professional; it was well executed, timely, and detailed! The VIP Swag Bags were chic and filled with goodies, and the bar was a very nice touch! I would like to congratulate Kelly Cunningham, and the Danville Fashion Week Creative Team for a job well done! ??  I also have to commend the designers for using models of all ethnicities, heights, ages, and weight, as I believe that designing for a wide range of models really stretches a designer’s skills. I loved all of the collections shown, but there were two designers that I felt were exceptional, due to their attention to detail and cohesiveness, and I couldn’t wait to share them with my readers! I’m shining this edition of High Fashion Spotlight on Brian Atkins and Kei Pittrell! Join me in celebrating their designs!

Brian Atkins’ Collection was Spectacularly Stunning! I feel as though no photographs could do his pieces justice: his tailoring is exquisite, and his understanding of a woman’s body is masterful. I remember being quite impressed by the chic wearability of the first designs that were shown, and then I was dazzled when he began showing what I can only describe as an “5th Element influenced” aesthetic! The gowns were the stars of the evening for me; the final ballgown with its’ Victorian influences received a standing ovation! Far from being merely local talent, Brian Atkins has a skill set that will surely lend itself to his designs being worn by many a red carpet starlet!

Kei Pittrell’s Hey Boogie Collection was colorful, fun, and urban glam! I adored the body con silhouettes, as well as the cute and cohesive finishing touches. The standout piece for me is the hot pink Swing Dress emblazoned with “Its A Look”. I immediately met with Kei backstage to see about placing an order for this dress! I am looking forward to following Kei Pittrell’s designs in the years to come!

I would like to thank Photographer Kevin Higgins, of The Runway Authority, for allowing me to use his photographs for this post! I was only able to take iPhone shots, and due to the lighting in the venue, my photographs did not come out clear. Kevin Higgins was able to capture clear, and beautifully detailed shots, and I am so thankful that he was willing to share them with me!
