Add A Touch Of Luxe To Your Home…Without Breaking The Bank!

Is your home lacking a little pizazz? Do you browse through pictures of luxurious homes and think to yourself ‘I wish mine looked like that’? If so, there are a few changes you can make that are a lot simpler than you might think. Best of all, they don’t need to break the bank- here are some ideas for going about it.

Start with a blank canvas

If you start off with a blank canvas, everything you place in the room will have maximum impact. Strip off any fussy wallpaper and have the walls painted in a light, neutral shade. This isn’t expensive but instantly makes any room look spacious and airy. A wooden floor can be costly up front but will save you money over time as it won’t need to be replaced for decades. Otherwise, a neutral carpet could be used. With a blank canvas you can choose which items you want to stand out and they won’t be swamped in colourful or patterned floors and walls.

Know where to save and where to splurge

It’s very easy to create a luxurious looking home without completely blowing the budget. The trick is to know where to save and where to splurge. For example, it’s often worth investing in a new high quality sofa as it will stand the test of time and look the part, compared with something that’s already worn. But with things like wooden furniture, these can often be purchased cheaply and upcycled for a high end look. Curtains are often spending more on, as sumptuous lined versions look and feel luxurious. But things like plants and ornaments can be found for next to nothing. Scour charity shops and second hand bargains for some items, and use the money you save towards investing in others. With the right balance, you can get an incredible finish overall.

Protect your assets

If you are going to be buying expensive items for your home, it’s so worth having them insured. At least that way if something happens, you won’t end up out of pocket. While you might be able to get away with using a water damage restoration service in the case of a flood, if there’s a fire or a burglary then there’s no real coming back from it. Take pictures of your purchases and keep receipts- scan them and email them to yourself so you have access to them if anything happens to your home. That way if you do need to make a claim, the process will be easy. For any very expensive items you may have to declare these separately as standard home insurance policies will have a limit for each items value.

Dress the room

Browse through Pinterest, Instagram and homeware magazines and you’ll see that all of the rooms have something in common- they’re beautifully dressed. Check out ideas for displaying items on shelves, dressing sofas and coffee tables. The items don’t need to be expensive but the right mix of objects make any room look much more stylish and luxurious.
