The Stripe Edit

Hey Socialites! Are ya’ll excited about the impending summer weather, the smell of hot sand and sea water, and longer days? As a plus sized girl, I used to loathe this time of year, but lately I am super geeked up about the latest summer fashions.  The trends are really amazing this year, inclusive of all sizes, and you just know that I am loving ALL of the bright colors! Smack dab in the middle of all that brightness, and the quirky cuteness of polka dots, lies all things striped! Striped prints are super stylish, and very flattering on everyone!

Styling Stripes

Stripes are one of the easiest prints to rock! You can wear a vertically striped dress or skirt to instantly look inches taller, or you can add shape to your body by embracing horizontal stripes. Stripes are bold, but it is pattern that I consider to be buildable, meaning your striped items can serve as foundational or basic pieces, and you can add color or texture through your accessories.  I like to pair stripes with a fun or bright shoe, and a fuschia or red lip for contrast!

When it comes to stripes, black and white or navy and white tend to be the safest options, but don’t be afraid to experiment with colorful stripes! My only advice is that when working with rainbow stripes, try to keep the width of the stripes narrow. After all, you don’t want to walk around looking like a roll of Lifesavers!  Pastel colored stripes are also beautiful and tend to add a casual bohemian vibe to sundresses and cute rompers, such as those worn by CMCoving in the photo above!
