How to Stay Inspired and Motivated After A Long Year

This has been a long and challenging year for all of us. But we must keep the faith and stay inspired nonetheless. There’s a bright horizon ahead if we will keep moving forward and bettering ourselves.

Think back on your New Year Resolutions earlier in the year and on goals you set in the last few months. Maybe they haven’t worked out as you initially planned. Don’t get discouraged! Here are some ways to stay inspired, even when it’s tough.

Practice Gratitude

As challenging as this year has been for many, there’s still so much to be grateful for. They might not always be so apparent, but dig deep to pull out the right things. Despite harsh times, contentment is a possibility

If it’s not already a habit of yours, make gratitude a regular practice in your life. You can start journaling, meditating, or just spending some time in quiet to make space. Don’t let a day go by where you don’t list at least three things you’re grateful for – even if just in your head.

Update Your Home

This might not seem like a traditional way to stay inspired, but most of us have been spending a lot of time in our homes. Updating the environment we spend most of our time in can have a significant impact on our mood and drive.

Consider sprucing up your porch or patio, doing some kitchen remodeling, or adding onto your home if things are cramped. Changing up our environment can be an incredibly inspiring move.

Prioritize Your Health

Keeping our bodies in tip-top shape is a great way to keep us motivated and inspired. And on the other hand, nothing disrupts our drive and ambition like going through health struggles. As the year comes to an end and a new begins, here are some things to focus on:

  • Get good sleep. Quality sleep is often an overlooked aspect of our health, but it’s surprisingly essential. Good sleep helps our bodies refuel and recharge for peak performance.

  • Eat vitamin-rich foods. No need to go on a crazy diet, but focus on adding more fruits and vegetables to your meals.

  • Exercise regularly. Again, no need to start working out for hours each day. Just start moving or lifting weights a few days a week to stay healthy.

Get Organized

Clutter and confusion are two quick ways to feel down and out of control. Getting control of your life can build confidence that leads to motivation and inspiration.

If your physical spaces are a mess, cleaning and tidying them up can do wonders. If your mind is a mess, buy a planner or journal and start organizing your life. Focus on organization, and you’ll see significant improvements in motivation.

Break Out of Your Routine

Sometimes we can get stuck in ruts due to daily routines and monotony. Simply switching things up can be enough to jolt us out of a dark place and into a healthy season.

If your days have started blending, make a plan to do something out of the ordinary. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Go on a weekend getaway, work from a coffee shop, take up a new hobby, or start volunteering. Do whatever you can to break out of your monotonous routine.
