4 Ways To Increase Your Bedroom Storage

Somehow, over the years, many of us have a tendency to collect a lot of ‘stuff’ – clothes, knick-knacks, trinkets, and possessions that become a part of our identity, and it doesn’t seem to matter how much space we think we have, before long, it starts to fill up and we find ourselves needing extra storage. So if your room is overflowing with things that need a home, then here are 4 ways to increase your bedroom storage space.

Be savvy with shelving

Shelving is a great, inexpensive way to turn wall space into bedroom storage space, while also ensuring that you are able to see all of the beautiful things that you have collected over the years. The trick with shelving is ensuring that it is secure, as you don’t want shelving falling down in the night, so always remember to hang it properly and if in doubt, keep heavier items for other locations. Shelving can look great above your bed, in the corners of your room or even in unused space such as that above your door, and if you aren’t allowed to screw shelving into your wall, then try standalone shelving units.

Make use of dead space

Bedroom dead-space has no other function than to be turned into storage space and will make you feel like you’re really using every inch of your room. The biggest area of dead-space in your bedroom will be under your bed and this can be easily converted into hidden storage by purchasing some plastic containers on wheels that can be easily slid underneath the bed and pulled out when needed. If you currently don’t have any space under your bed, then consider upgrading your bed-frame to one with under-bed storage or with free space for you to fit your own drawers.

Customize your closet

The chances are that your closet isn’t entirely optimized for storage efficiency and there are some simple things that you can do to help you maximize its potential. For shorter items such as 2-shirts, you could benefit from hanging a second rail, and have you considered putting a jewelry organizer on the inside of your closet door? Pinterest is a great place to look for closet storage inspiration, or if you’re in the market for a new closet anyway then why not consider a custom closet installation. Now, we bet you’re wondering but how much does a custom closet system cost? And the truth is that the answer can vary significantly, but it will definitely improve your bedroom storage space.

Hang up some hooks

Finally, hooks make a great home for scarves, hats, jewelry and a range of other trinkets and belongings. With a low profile, they don’t take up much space and can be hung around other more bulky items of furniture such as your bed or other pieces of shelving. If you want to avoid putting nails in the walls then look for command hooks that stick on instead of requiring nails, saving your walls and deposit if you are renting.

  1. I’m glad that you talked about how almost everyone needs extra storage in their homes. However, we just can’t get rid of our stuff or renovate within the rental property as per our contract. It would be easier to just rent a self-storage unit that would help us keep our things safe.
