Lighten Dark Lips Easily and Safely At Home!

Hi Socialites! Today, I want to pay a little lip service to an issue I (and probably many of you) have dealt with: dark lips! ? About a month ago, I was reviewing a couple of shots from my latest photoshoot, and I noticed how dark, dull, and unsightly my lips looked. I normally wear lip color, but had decided to stick to a clear gloss for the shoot. I’m not a smoker, so I was confused, and immediately started researching causes of dark lips, as well as how to lighten dark lips naturally.

I was shocked to find out that my daily coffee (and Bojangles Sweet Tea habit) was to blame for my not so pink lips. (And to think, I only thought it stained my teeth. *shrug*) Did you guys know that coffee, tea, sun exposure, smoking, and too much caffeine can cause your lips to darken? Of course there are some medical issues that can cause them too, but if you know that your dark lips are caused by daily habits, read on for the scoop on how to lighten dark lips at home!

Lemon ?

I’ve read enough beauty magazines to know that lemon is a great natural skin and hair lightener, but I felt that the acid in lemon might be a little too strong for delicate lip skin. Not so! This study reveals that lemon is a natural melanin inhibitor, and the acid content is not likely to cause sensitivity or inflammation.

For a luscious pout, simply apply fresh lemon juice to your lips nightly, using a clean cotton pad. You should begin to see results from a day to day basis, but optimal lightening will occur in 1 to 2 months!

Olive Oil

This is the method I’ve been using, because I always have a bottle of EVOO in my kitchen! I use this golden elixir for cooking, hair treatments, cuticle oil, and now as a potent lip fix!

Using olive oil is super easy, so that’s why I love this method. To lighten dark lips, you simply rub the oil on your lips for 5 minutes before going to bed. That’s.all. Mind boggling, right?!!! But it works! I read that results should be seen in a month, and I can’t wait to see my end results. Im sure my lips will just look better period. Olive oil is filled with nutrients and is such a great moisturizer.

Aw Sugar Sugar

I haven’t tried this method yet, but I’ve heard that it is a very effective way to lighten dark lips. You mix a tsp of sugar with 1 tsp of whole cream, and use it to scrub your lips for 5 minutes, each day. Repeat until your lips reach the desired color.

I plan to use the olive oil method for about 2 weeks, do this sugar scrub, and then resume the olive oil method! If you try this first, let me know in the comments how it worked!

I’m looking forward to seeing my lips return to a nice juicy pink! In the meantime, I’m sharing some lip products below that I’ve either used, or heard great things about! Here’s to keeping our lips soft and moist all year long!

See you next time!
