If you want to try and save money, then you’ll be glad to know that when it comes to things around the house, saving money can be simple to do. In fact, sometimes a few easy home upgrades can make a huge difference. Why not take a look at your utility bills and see how your electricity rates fare in comparison to the average. This way, you can really work out the benefit of all the money-saving measures you put into place.
Installing a smart thermostat is a fantastic way for you to save money every year. There are some that you install into the wall, and they are fixed in place. These look very good if you want to market your home as being high-tech. On top of this, they are ideal if you want to keep your home cooler in summer and warmer in winter. You can also install air conditioning if you don’t have any right now.
Don’t Forget about Caulking
Sometimes it’s very easy for you to lose sight of inexpensive home improvements. Caulking is one of those easy home upgrades that can pay off, big time. Whatever amount of money you spend re-caulking and replacing weather stripping, you will have it all back in under a year. The energy savings that come with doing jobs like this are remarkable so make sure that you look into things like this if possible.
One of the best ways for you to save would be for you to invest in new attic insulation. It’s a good idea to check to see if your joists are visible over the insulation. If they are then you can easily add some more insulation to try and save money. You can look into spray foam insulation vs fiberglass if you are not sure which one to go with. Of course, if you invest in some new attic insulation then this will add a remarkable amount of money to your home, so keep this in mind.
Ditch the Incandescent Lights
Installing energy-efficient lighting is one of the easy home upgrades that can help you to save. CFL and LED bulbs have a way longer life when you compare them to normal bulbs. If you want to save even more then there are app-controlled bulbs out there. These are very easy to install, and you can put them on a schedule as well if you want. Smart lights are great, but if you want to invest in an easier option then you can get smart switches too. You can then set them up to control your Christmas tree lights or even your space heater if you keep on forgetting to turn it off.
Believe it or not, a low-flow showerhead can save you a huge amount of money. There is nothing like a long hot shower, but it could be wasting you 5 gallons of water for every minute you’re in there. If you invest in a low-flow showerhead then you can easily use a fifth of this amount. If you have a large family then you should know that you can save even more, so make sure that you are not overlooking things like this if you want to get the best result out of your home upgrades. You’d be surprised at what a difference it can make to your home and your energy bills.

Thank you for sharing! Another tip is updating electrical appliances. As dependable as your refrigerator, water heater, and air conditioning unit is, they will – at some point – malfunction or degrade. This means they can lose their energy efficiency, requiring more power to do the same amount of work in your home. It’s beneficial to check your appliances regularly to identify any damage or even a buildup of dust and debris around the filters.
This tip may seem strange, as it requires money, but in the end, it pays off by reducing your bills.

Thanks for sharing such helpful info! To save on utility bills, I would also suggest replacing your traditional tank water heater with tankless option. The result of this change can be instantaneous. Unlike conventional heaters, demand-type tankless water heaters only function when needed. With a tankless heater, water is heated directly without storage. In doing so, these heaters don’t generate standby energy losses.

Good suggestions! To save more money on bills, you should also consider replacing old electrical appliances in your home with new ones. Old appliances like fridges, boilers, ovens, and freezers can, over time, become complete energy drains. While they may be a little expensive to replace and install, the savings they can offer will make it an economically and environmentally viable decision over the long run. You should even consider second-hand appliances with an Energy Star rating. This way you are saving yourself money and giving perfect good appliances a new life.

Thank you for such great suggestions! By the way, if you have a swimming pool, I would suggest you convert it into a saltwater pool. Although it requires initial costs, it will allow you to spend less on expensive chemicals each year.

Yeah, the big benefit of having a smart thermostat is saving money on electricity by reducing wasteful energy consumption while your house is empty. You can just set it to a lower or higher temperature (depending on the season) while you’re away and program it to be at your preferred temperature by the time you return. BUT. Remember that too low temperature can cause frozen pipes. If winter in your city is pretty cold, you may need to keep your house warm enough just to prevent it.

Informative Article! Thanks for sharing! I agree! Attic insulation helps a lot in lowering energy costs. Several companies are offering attic insulation in Pasadena, but Pure Eco Inc. insulate it the best.
